A Sample from Thug’s Work Email Inbox

I hope the following email warms the cockles of your heart as much as it did mine. The inner struggle that the author emotes in the following spam, truly, elicited tear generation in my ocular cavities:

Subject: Saying goodbye to an old friend

Back in the 1980s, a long-haired kid was searching all over town for a tube
for a guitar amp he was trying to sell. Cascade Surplus Electronics seemed
to be the only place in town that still had vacuum tubes. That kid was in
his first year of college for Electronic Engineering and instantly became a
regular customer. Over the years entire paychecks were spent during the
legendary half-price sales. Little did he know that he’d be the one to
close down the old store at 8221 N Denver Ave.

I’d like to offer a big thank you to those who showed up to help with the
move. And also to those of you who have remained loyal customers over the
years. Great customers are the backbone of any business. I guess that’s
why it takes years for a business to really get off the ground.

CSE will live on. The new space is a bit cramped, stacked to
the ceiling in some places. Once I get the place a little more organized,
customers will be welcome to browse the shelves just like in the old days.
Ebay and web sales will be the main target, though.

The old store will be open Friday and Saturday this week to
sell off the last of the shelves, tables, and desks that won’t fit into the
new space. I’ll be in and out all weekend moving the last of the items left
with my pickup truck. We’re scheduled to hand the keys over Monday and
that’ll be it.

Again, thanks for your -support and I hope to see everybody again soon.

I sincerely doubt that, at least throughout all of electronics dorkdom, a more poignant farewell has ever been written. Here’s to you Tony! Best wishes on your future EBay endeavors/exploits.

Boring stuff really. Not much to tell. One time a tree was struck by lightning not ten feet from me. It like, exploded, and the blast knocked me over! I was okay though. Another time I got my pinky caught in a pipe vice on a drilling rig. The vice nearly severed it--that was kind of exciting I guess. Oh yes, and one time I was sued for 3 million dollars. Top that..!
